Martha Ritz, a young widow, bought The Exchange Hotel in 1927 and renamed it The Ritz. Martha married Tom Bailey, and this inmitable pair ran The Ritz Hotel for many years. Aftera devastating fire in 1948 which destroyed the beautiful landmark, Martha and Tom started over and the result is the building you are in today. Many Bayfielders have fond and vivid memories of the old Ritz…playing cards, Tom scooping ice cream cones, good meals and maybe a little illicit liquid refreshment too. This place has many great stories to tell … and we hope you help us create some new ones! Martha was renowned for her skills in the kitchen , and together with Tom earned a reputation around the Village as astute importers of hard to get commodities. Think of Martha’s spirit in the kitchen as you consider what to order from among some of her favourites…The Martha Ritz has four comfy rooms, with private baths available. Perfect for the summer retreat, cottage overflow and impromptu fall visit.

The Martha Ritz House is open daily from 11:30 am to sunset. For any rental, event or information on the 2008 season please contact Jess Finlayson at 519.565.2325 or click here to email
